Slip sliding away
Picton to Pelorus Bridge
55/56/57km depending which device you ask... S1bar, M2bars battery
A baptism of fire is how swmbo described it! Decided to use the Link Pathway to avoid road traffic on the Q Charlotte Drive. For us neophytes it was a tough introduction to single-track riding even without the slip crossings... Marg told one enquirer that at least she was now fully familiar with her bike's 'walk' mode! A lovely ride nonetheless, ending in Havelock. At least it was in bush shade most of the time.
After a satisfying threesome with The Captain's Daughter* we left Havelock in the full glare of the sun . Again we detoured from the TA purist route, taking a loop of the road literally less travelled, 'enjoying' about 10km of near traffic-free (and therefore unswept) gravel. Marg was less than pleased when I politely enquired whether her slow progress was due to fatigue, discomfort or nerves. And that if it were nerves I felt that going faster might feel more in control. Fortunately 'Murderer's Rock' is in tomorrow's itinerary...
Already the cable-ties have been pressed into service as one of the brackets on my tri-bar has disintegrated. The most frustrating part is that I heard it go as I started off after a photo stop. Hearing the tinkle of metal on stone I did a (too) cursory check on the bike and carried on. I will never again assume that I just rode over something; I shall stop and examine whatever is on the ground!
* It's a pub!
Excellent work, you two - very well done!!
